Traditional aftermarket GPS dongles and hardwired trackers sit in accessible areas like OBD-II ports, making them easy for bad actors or defaulting borrowers to find and unplug. Motorq gets location data directly from the vehicle's factory-installed telematics control unit, typically mounted behind the dashboard or in other hard-to-reach areas. Without visible add-on hardware or exposed wiring, native GPS tracking is significantly harder to locate and disable.

Motorq uses OEM-supported commands to safely disable ignition only after a vehicle is turned off, preventing the engine from restarting until recovery agents arrive on scene. Note: this functionality is only supported by select OEMs. Contact us for details.

Modern vehicles come equipped from the factory with built-in connected technology like modems and cellular connectivity. Motorq works directly with automakers to connect to these native onboard systems, allowing lenders to locate and manage defaulted assets without needing to install aftermarket tracking devices.

Enrollment is a software step. VINs can be uploaded in bulk through the Motorq Fleet Portal or by API. Motorq handles the OEM consent and activation workflow. There is no hardware to order, install, or retrieve, so a batch of vehicles can be sending data the same day. Unenrolling works the same way in reverse: remove the vehicle and data collection stops.
